A bit about myself…
I am an art director, designer and painter with expansive and broad experience working in animation and film, specializing in colour mood boards, environment design, concepts and colour styling. Coming from a history of 2D traditional paint and illustration skills, I now work within various digital mediums.
My earlier artistic career included 10 years experience working as a graphic designer and digital embroiderer, where I had strengthened my traditional skills with corporate, sporting and educational branding.
In search of more creative & challenging roles, I transitioned into film, TVC & animation art department roles, an area that I longed to work in for many years. I firstly took on the role as Background-Landscape Painter with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, for the TV animated series Lil’ Elvis & The Truck Stoppers.
Soon after, I was employed by Disney Toons Studios Australia as a Background Artist, and in time would be appointed Background Head Supervisor. With close to 10 years of employment there, I worked on 13 feature films & various animated TV projects. The work was creatively expansive and stylised, and the experience was challenging yet very fulfilling.
I then went on to work on numerous projects with Flying Bark Productions, which incorporated various styles from graphic 2D to realistic 3D. Firstly as Set Designer and Environment Colour Stylist for the TV series Zeke’s Pad, I then moved on as Art Director for the 26 episode 3D series Legend of Enyo. Then followed with an Assistant Art Director role for the TV series The Woodlies, a unique stylised 2d-3d project. I followed that project as Colourist and Production Designer for Tashi.
Then a move back onto features, and was appointed the roles of Lead Visual Development Designer and Co Art Director for the 3d Feature Film Blinky Bill. Straight after completion, I was the Art Director for 52 episodes of the Blinky Bill follow up TV series. Just recently I was providing Colour Mood Boards for the feature Maya The Bee 2.
As a freelance designer, I have taken on various ranges of design work duties, from a variety of creative clients & fields, ranging from architectural illustrations, concept character-environment design & matte painting. A standout experience was my role as an Illustrator-Concept Artist for George Miller’s live action film, Justice League of America, working alongside a very high level production crew.
My last 2 years have been exciting working as a senior production designer on the Motown Magic animated series now released on Netflix!
Currently, I continue to freelance in concept, art direction, production design and design team management.
I also have a very strong passion for photography and collecting Japanese vintage tin toy robots. I also have an obsession with collecting beautiful old soul records and like to write and publish to my blog seven45rpm.com. Also a regular DJ on the 2ser radio Show When the Levee Breaks.
